Swedish sweet-tasting!

The day had come!

One week after our Mystery Google Hangout with Pernilla's kids in Sweden...we set aside half an hour to 'taste Swedish candy'!

Had the kids sit in a circle...the idea being we would casually 'record' some responses and have the kids 'use some descriptive language' to explain their thoughts (many kids have this as a writing goal - to use more descriptive words). So what a great opportunity to practice that within an authentic experience!

Well... the first 'taster' went out...I attempted to tell the kids what it was called... we smelled...lots of kids describing as 'caramel, coffee, liquorice smelling ...

And then we tasted!

The next thing I know... all the kids are up out of their seats and rushing to the rubbish bin! Well that was the end of the 'organisation'! Had to laugh though as this initial  reaction was 'priceless'!!

I decided to 'taste' myself with the thought that these kids are all just 'being dramatic' for the camera....WELL... i found myself having to 'get rid of mine' too....it was HORRID! (Sorry Pernilla)

So onto the 'next taster'...

The little marshmellowy ones were a hit! "fruity" "like eskimos"

Then we passed out the fizzy bottles... smelt "bubblegummy" "sour"

The raspberry jube was a hit too..."soft, chewy, sweet" ... MY FAVOURITE!

We so hope you have just as much fun tasting our 'KIWI SELECTION' Pernilla and class! Make sure you do a video too...will be fantastic to 'see / hear' reactions!

ON BEHALF OF THE KIDS>>>>thank you for sending us some of your Swedish candy...the experience was fantastic and I hope we can connect with more classes around the world and do the same thing!

  5. Hi mrs T, It was an interesting and fun activity that we did. Im glad we saved the best for last and got that yuck salty taste out of our mouth(sorry Pernilla and kids). The salty sensation crept onto the walls of my mouth making my innocent tastebuds hide. But Pernilla was right once you get past all the saltiniess it didnt taste quite so bad. The sencond lollie cleaned my mouth with its sweetness getting all the not so caramel tasting lollie out. The third lollie was just making my tastebuds go to heaven. The fourth lollie was well lets say it was chocolate and i just cant resiste chocolate! Thank you guys for sending us your lollies, I hope we can get to see a video of you and your class trying our lollies. Thanks again Chloe!

    1. Chloe... you have made great use of this tasting session to demonstrate your skill with words! "The salty sensation crept onto the walls of my mouth making my innocent tastebuds hide" WOW WOW WOW... alliteration, personification, metaphor all in the one sentence!!! Nothing better than having your 'tastebuds in heaven'...brilliant!
When you need an example of evidence for your use of language features in your writing...here it is BOOM!

  6. Hi I’m Bree-Ann, I’m from Tamatea Intermediate.

I liked the chocolate it was almost as good as the chocolate here. My least favourite one was the first two. they tasted like coffee. The interesting part was how everybody reacted to the first two.

I would really like to try some other Swedish candy. It would be interesting seeing your reaction to the we sent you

  9. HI Ms T its Jasmine. It was interesting tasting what people from Sweden like. The first lolly looked well interesting and it tasted interesting too! The saltiness crept up on my tastebuds and gave them a surprise! The saltiness soon disappeared and I was left with a normal tasting lolly. The black salty one was like Ms T said HORRID! Sorry Pernilla and the students there! The colourful ones were like minty marshmallows and the gele hallon ones were just luscious! Thank you for sending us those yummy lollies most of them were delicious! I hope you enjoy ours!

  11. Hi guys Grace here from Tamatea Intermediate. I really enjoyed tasting the swedish candies. The first two were horribily disgusting, The golden first one smelt like caramel with a little smell of coffee,`The second one was a black liquorice salty one. It was the time to taste first we tasted the caramel, coffee one, It taste like salt water. All I did was run to the bin and spit it out.

The next one was the black liquorice one. It went into my mouth and out into the bin. It taste like a salty black liquorice.

Then Ms T pulled out bilar they were the bomb.com. I loved they tasted like raspberry I loved them.

Sadly the bus bell went and I didn't get to try the last two, How did they taste, did you like them????
