The Balloon Bursts
I know I have written a few posts about #NZreadaloud4JWM but it is a major part of our programme this Term.
We have just read this week probably one of the most emotionally charged chapters in the whole book called "The Balloon Bursts".
As I was reading (although when I watch the video it seems I am yelling!) my kids decided they wanted to 'act the scene out'. So one got hold of the iPad while some volunteers 'got into character'.
What resulted was an intense, emotionally-charged scene (although our actors couldn't help laughing and smiling as they did it) but the vibe was still there.
It was an interesting exercise to listen back on myself too...as it is definitely something I am not comfortable with - listening to myself like this! I always think though, if we do not 'get into the character' while we read then we will lose some of our audience. I think I definitely got into character here!
Hi I'm Bree-Ann, I really liked how we switched people so that they all got a go. I also don't like listening to my own voice. Could we do like a play for that part in the story
Hello my name is Grace. Haha I really liked this chapter I think this would've been the most dramatic and emotional chapter. I liked how the kids came up and roleplayed it. The questions is how did dad really feel about Pip bursting?
That was fun doing that i hope it was enjoying for the rest of the class, i hope we do another one of thoses, do you guys and girls think we could do one of those things again but acting as Mum and Dad. MITCHELL
i like that conner and mitchell used stomping bunting and it was easy to know what happened on that scene and it made the story a lot more sense. Tylar
haha this part was so funny especially with them acting it out and and msT doing the voice impressions and it was also by far the most emotional chapter so far and everyone was found gobsmacked by the end of the chapter at how much pip hated having dad around and how many feelings he had towards him it was a very good chapter and it was made even better with people acting it out. sophie
some great performance by Mitchell I'm not so sure about Connors though I think he needs a bit more practice but other whys awesome. What do you think Connor could do to improve his performance?
